Men’s Soccer Falls to #3 Princeton on Senior Day, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's soccer rounded out the regular season on Saturday night, falling 1-0 to #3 Princeton at Rhodes Field.

Princeton netted the sole goal of the match in the seventh minute to post a perfect 7-0 Ivy League record while Penn shifted to 3-2-2 to end the regular season slate.

Quaker Notemeal
*Penn claimed the #3 seed in the 2025 Ivy League Tournament off tonight's results.

*The Red and Blue celebrated the college careers of Oliver Pratt, Gavin Seele, Patrick Cayelli, Erickson Sakalosky, Wagoner, David Howard, and Will Kelly before the match.

*Both offenses left it all on the pitch as the Quakers had 14 shots and the Tigers had 13 in the battle.

*Keeper Phillip Falcon III tied his career-high in saves, stopping six of seven shots faced.

*In shutting out the Quakers, Princeton made history as the first men's soccer team in Ivy League history to go through an entire league season without allowing a goal. The Tigers outscored their Ancient Eight competition 12-0 in the regular season.

How It Happened
The Tigers controlled the pace early, as Sakalosky and Romeo Dahlen tallied back-to-back blocked shots in the fourth minute, but Bardia Hormozi snuck one past Falcon in the seventh to put Princeton on the board. The first save of the battle was made ten minutes later as Daniel Ittycheria slammed one towards keeper Falcon that was stifled before the lead could be doubled.

The Quakers tried to apply pressure in Princeton's defensive zone as forward Dahlen and Marco Bottene all tried shots in the 21st, 25th, and 29th minutes, but keeper Andrew Samuels stopped all of them to keep the game at 1-0 with time running down.

The Tigers kept Falcon busy as Giuliano Fravolini Whitchurch and Kristian Kelly posted two straight shots in the 34th minute that the junior fiercely shoved away. The final shots of the half came from Penn as defender Dawson tried one at Samuel that was saved in the 41st, and Owen Sullivan rocketed that ball far above the crossbar to end the first.

Princeton continued to stay hot coming out of the break, as Kelly shot one at Falcon again within the first five minutes of the half that the keeper pushed away. The Tiger offense continued to add shots to the board, with a pair of wide shots in the 51st and 56th minutes. Senior Cayelli recorded Penn's first shot of the second, which was ultimately saved a minute later.

Junior Falcon was forced to make his fifth stop of the night off a rocket from Ittycheria with 30 minutes left of regulation to keep the deficit at one. The Quakers tried to create some action off a blocked shot by defender Pratt, which resulted in a corner in the 69th minute, but nothing came of the opportunity.

The Red and Blue continued to make the Tigers' defense work as Sullivan tallied a blocked shot in the 70th, Dawson forced Samuels to make a save in the 75th, while George Herbert added a blocked shot in the 78th.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Princeton was able to hold Penn to only one blocked shot in the final 12 minutes to take the regular season finale 1-0.
