How It Happened
SET 1 (Princeton 25-20): It was 3-3 early, but the Tigers scored three in a row and then answered Penn's fourth point with another six in a row. That made it 12-4 and the Quakers were fighting uphill the rest of the way. Penn got as close as five at 21-16 and again at 22-17, but Princeton scored the next two points to get to set point. The Red and Blue fought off three of them, helped in part by Rittenberg and Sanger kills, but Princeton closed it out at 25-20. Sanger (.429), Tennyson (1.000) and Rittenberg all had three kills in the set while Pollock had seven digs.
SET 2 (Princeton 25-21): The closest of the three sets, the teams tying 10 times with seven lead changes. Things were tied at 17-17 when Tennyson and Siskin blocked an Erin McNair attack, then Sanger put down a kill for a 19-17 Penn lead. The Tigers called timeout, but Siskin and then Garner answered Princeton points with kills to keep the Quakers in front, 21-19. They would be Penn's last points, unfortunately, as the host Tigers rolled off the final six in a row with the last three coming via blocks at the net. Sanger (.333) had six kills in the set while Siskin (.500) put down three.
SET 3 (Princeton 25-17): Penn led early, 7-5, but the Tigers ripped off the next nine points and Quakers coach
Tyler Hagstrom's two timeouts couldn't stop things. A Sanger kill got the Red and Blue got as close as four, at 16-12, but Princeton scored the next two points and four of the next five to get some breathing room late. Siskin (.500) put down four kills in the final set.
