How it Happened
After the Quakers' last two matches started with a fury on either side, both teams came out with a slow methodical approach to begin this one.
Mallory Lucas got Penn's offensive day started when she sent a shot just above the crossbar at the 9th minute.
The offensive drought would be brought to an end at the 26th minute, when freshman
Kylie Emanuel sent a header to an on-the-run
Abbey Cook. Surrounded by two defenders, Cook sent a one-timer from the left foot off a bounce into the upper right corner to open Penn's account for the day. The goal is Cook's fourth of the year and represents the team lead in that category.
Following the goal, Columbia would press on the gas a bit, putting two shots on goal in a minute's span, but senior netminder Austen was able to handle the attempts. Austen had a great first half, securing four saves in a clean opening frame.
At the 35th minute, junior
Avery Chapel made a great defensive play around midfield to set senior
Mallory Lucas up with the ball. Lucas was able to dish it to Cook, who sent a no-look back heal pass to the junior
Magali Capdevila. Capdevila put a shot on the same spot Cook found earlier for the second score of the match. This goal is Capdevila's first of the year.
The second half proved this match would be a tale of two halves. Columbia applied consistent pressure in the second half. The Lions outshot the Quakers 14-1 in the second half and drew eight corners.
At the 70th minute, the Lions got the goal they had been threatening, when Annie Faraone sent a shot from well outside the box. The ball took a bounce just underneath Austen for the first Lion goal of the match.
The Lions would not be satisfied, though. The Lions continued to mount serious pressure, which eventually turned into a second Annie Faraone goal following a series of corners from Columbia.
The Quakers have now played well in back-to-back, 2-2, ties. They'll look to get into the win column when they come back home to play Cornell on Saturday at Rhodes Field.
