Gymnastics Hosts Home Opener and Senior Night in Friday Quad Meet

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team will be at The Palestra for the first time in 2025, hosting Towson, Ursinus and Yale on Friday night. The quad meet will also serve as Senior Night, honoring the seniors for their contributions to the Penn gymnastics program.
 
The Red and Blue are coming a strong showing at #16 Rutgers, scoring a 194.325.

Shoutout the Seniors
Six seniors will be recognized after Friday's meet. Emma Davies, Isabella Garrett, Marigold Garrett, Zara Gazdak, Isabel Song and Olivia VanHorn have all been an integral part to Penn's three straight GEC championships.
 
Fire in the Skye
Skyelar Kerico has earned her fifth career GEC Co-Gymnast of the Week honor for her performance at #16 Rutgers. She won on the vault, tying her personal-best score of 9.850. She took home two more top five finishes in the uneven bars and floor exercise.
 
Too eZ
Zara Gazdak set a new career-high on the floor exercise last week with a score of 9.875. She tied for first place on the event.
 
Rotation Notes
*Marissa Lassiter secured her first career all-around title with a 38.925. Her best individual event was a sixth-place finish on the balance beam at 9.800.

*Making her collegiate debut, Mimi Fletcher tied for second place on the beam with a score of 9.850.
 
*Penn secured first and second place honors on the vault with Jordan Barrow placing second at 9.775.
 
RTN Rankings
Penn leads the meet with the highest Road to Nationals ranking at No. 37. Right behind them is fellow Ivy and GEC school, Yale (No. 44). Towson (No. 56) and Ursinus (No. 72) round out the group.
 
Individually on vault, Kerico sits atop at No. 1 with Gigi Sabatini (Yale) at No. 5; On bars, Kerico and Clara Hong (Towson) are tied at No. 10; On beam, Fletcher is No. 1; On floor, Megan Brueck (Yale) and Ella Tashjian (Yale) are No. 2 with Gazdak and Ellie Kearns (Yale) tied at No. 6.
 
Scouting Towson
In back-to-back weeks, the Tigers will be competing against the Quakers. Towson took home third place at the Rutgers Quad with a score of 193.950.
 
Steph Macasu and Chelsey Dennis split the unever bars title with a score of 9.825. Isabella Minervini scored a 9.875 on the floor, tying Gazdak for first place.
 
Friday will mark the homecoming of Ana Kenefick. Kenefick spent four years at Penn, specializing on the beam and floor. She was a regular competitor in her final season at University City, earning Second Team All-Ivy Classic (beam).
 
Scouting Ursinus
Ursinus took home first place in its season opener last week, winning the Cortland Meet with a score of 186.825.

The Bears had one event winner in Megan Matteucci who had a three-way tie for first place (floor) at 9.800.
 
The last time Ursinus competed against Penn was at Penn's Senior Day in February 2022. The Quakers secured third place with a team score of 193.025.
 
Scouting Yale
Yale won at Cornell last week in a GEC tri-meet, scoring a 193.700.
 
Sabatini won the vault with a score of 9.800. On the floor exercise, Yale had the top three finishers in Brueck, Tashjian and Kearns. Kearns earned GEC Newcomer of the Week with a 9.850 score on the floor and 9.625 on the bars.
 
The Quakers and Bulldogs competed against each other five teams last season with Penn coming out on top all five times. Their most recent meeting came at the GEC Championships in New Haven, Conn. with Penn securing their third straight title.
