PHILADELPHIA—The University of Pennsylvania women's and men's squash teams split their matches against the Trinity Bantams on Saturday afternoon at the Penn Squash Center.
Penn's top-ranked men's team topped No. 4 Trinity 6-3, while the Quakers' No. 3-ranked women's team fell to the second-ranked Bantams 6-3. The Quaker men now sit 10-0 on the season, while the women move to 7-1 with their first loss.
On the women's side, sophomores
Malak Khafagy and
Sohaila Ismail both had great matches for the women, sweeping their opponents on the exhibition court and each earning a point for the Quakers.
Natasha Pensler was the Red and Blue's other victor, earning a four-game win at No. 9 on the ladder.
Fifth-year
Yoshna Singh battled through a back-and-forth match with Jana Ashmawy, running out of steam in game five. In her match, top-ranked
Allie Stoddard fell to Trinity's Kara Lincou in four games, marking the freshman's first loss of the season. The Bantams were able to swing momentum in their favor with victories over
Franka Vidovic,
Hailey Wong,
Savannah Ingledew, and
Jana Dweek.
In Saturday's men's match—a rematch of last year's CSA Team Championships final—Salman Khalil (#1), Omar Hafez (#3) and Marwan Abdesalam (#4) all swept their matches with dominant performances over their opponents. The sophomore Khalil took the first two games with ease and managed to hold on in the third game to maintain his undefeated record on the season. Junior Hafez and senior Nathan Kueh (#5) also remain undefeated this season with their victories today.
Penn's other wins came from Dana Santry, who was victorious in four games at No. 6, and Varun Chitturi who won his last two games to gain a 3-1 decision at No. 9.
