How It Happened
The first quarter was a defensive affair as both teams were trying to figure each other out. The Red and Blue failed to register a shot while the Cardinals tallied three opportunities, including two on goal.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Penn found the back of the net, getting on the counterattack and taking the ball down the left side boundary. Loozen crossed it to Ryan, who made a move to freeze the goalie, then scored on the open net.
Penn's lead would last for just 10 minutes before the Cardinals scored a goal of their own. They were awarded a penalty stroke which Plumb took and shot past the backside of de Frees. The score was tied 1-1 entering the locker room at halftime.
The third quarter was similar to the first, as Louisville looked to have scored a go-ahead penalty corner with seconds remaining. Official review ended up waving off the goal.
In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals scored two goals to seal the game. Chloe Cuzzupe converted off a rebound early in the fourth, while Rylie Woolerton added the dagger two minutes later.
