PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania cross country teams opened the 2024 season at the New Jersey Jam on Friday, placing second in the women's 4k race as
L'Mio Edwards crossed the finish line in fourth.
Edwards started the day in sixth at the 1500m mark, before dropping down to eighth with less than 1000-meters to go. As the women came near the finish line, Edwards found her strength to keep fighting on and was able to move up four spots in the pack to lead the Quakers in her collegiate debut (14:12.3). Freshman
Olivia Williams put her own stamp on the season finishing sixth with a time of 14:13.1.
QUAKER NOTEMEAL
- Penn women competed in the 4k race finishing second with a team score of 55 points. Edwards led the team crossing the finishing line at 14:12.3, followed by Olivia Williams in sixth with a time of 14:13.1.
- Senior Chloe Hassman stopped the clock as 14:24.6 to finish 12th. Bronwyn Patterson and Courtney Kaiser rounded out the team score clocking in at 14:31.5 (16) and 14:32.0 (17), respectively.
- The men's team started the day for the Quakers, led by Liam Going scoring 12th in the 5.6k with a time of 17:14.4. The men tallied 119 points as three freshman made their collegiate debuts.
- Junior Liam Going scored 12th for Penn crossing the finish line at 17:14.4. Sebastian Pizarro scored in the top 25 clocking in at 17:37.0 (22).
- Freshmen Diego Mendez Colon and Brady Golomb completed the men's score finishing with a time of 17:56.7 (29) and 18:28.1 (32), respectively.
