How It Happened
Jeremiah opened the offensive attempts five minutes into the match, launching a shot above Ryan Eapen's goal off a corner kick from
Patrick Cayelli. A few minutes later, Korzeniowski tried to stir up some trouble, but his shot went wide to the left to keep the bout at zero.
William and Mary did not shoot the ball until the 21st minute, as Alexandros Katsari-Hoefer slammed one from far down the field towards Falcon, but it ultimately went high to not cause any damage. A minute later, Erick Sakalosky attempted the first on-goal shot with a header, but Eapen scooped up the ball to keep the game scoreless almost halfway through the first.
The Tribe tallied another off target shot in the 26th minute, but the ball went to the right before Falcon had to make a save. Three minutes later, W&M's Bryce Smith received a penalty that allowed Korzeniowski to take a penalty kick and score to push Penn ahead 1-0.
William and Mary attempted the final shots of the first quarter in the 38th and 40th minutes, but like the first two shots, both soared high above Falcon to end the offense in the half.
Midfielder Jeremiah started the second half with a fury, slamming one right on the Tribe's goalkeeper, but it was ultimately saved. The Tribe did not get a second half shot until the 56th minute, which went high above the goal. William and Mary finally tallied a shot on goal three minutes later, but Falcon held strong, making his first save of the match to hold the deficit at one.
Both teams posted shots that went high within the 63rd and 66th minutes to up the intensity of the game, sparking sophomore Jeremiah to finally hit the back of the net three minutes later, scoring his first collegiate goal in the 69th minute to lengthen Penn's lead to 2-0.
With a little less than 15 minutes on the clock, both teams kept the offensive attempts going as Sam Delagado shot one at the bottom of Falcon's goal that was saved, followed directly by a shot from Korzeniowski that was also saved by Eapen.
The final few minutes of the match were chippy as seven fouls were handed out between the two programs. With nothing to lose, Korzeniowski tried to sneak one more past Eapen as time was expiring, but the keeper made the save to keep the match at its final tally of 2-0.
