EUGENE, Ore. – Senior
Isabella Whittaker's final race wearing the Red and Blue was certainly a memorable one.
One of the most decorated women's track & field athletes in Penn program history, Whittaker ran in the 400-meter final Saturday afternoon on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field. The senior left it all on the track, clocking a program and Ivy League record 50.17 seconds—more than six-tenths of a second off her previous best—and finished in fifth place.
Whittaker earns first-team All-America honors with her race on Saturday, becoming just the third Penn women's track & field athlete to be so honored along with Nia Akins and Anna Peyton Malizia who both did so in 2019.
The race was historic not just from a Penn perspective; NCAA Championships history was made as the University of Arkansas completed a "super sweep" by taking the top four spots ahead of Whittaker. The race was won by Nickisha Price in a collegiate-record 48.89 seconds, followed by Razorback teammates Kaylyn Brown, Amber Anning, and Rosey Effiong as all four broke 50 seconds.
