LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team concluded action at the NCAA East Region First Round Saturday evening at Kentucky's Outdoor Track & Field Facility.
Three individuals—
Olivia Morganti,
Isabella Whittaker, and
Lily Murphy—punched their tickets to NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. while both relay events—the 4x100 and 4x400—are also headed to the west coast. In addition, four program records were set in a relay and three individual races.
Whittaker punched her ticket to Eugene with a fourth-place finish in the 400m, notching a program-record mark of 50.82 in the race.
Morganti continued her dominance in the 3,000m steeplechase, getting a time of 10:07.44 to place 11th and earn a place at NCAAs.
Murphy completed the distance sweep after punching a ticket to NCAA Championships on Thursday in the 10K and doing the same Saturday in the 5K with a fast time of 15:51.27, a new program-record mark which snapped her own record by over five seconds.
In the 4x100 relay, the quartet of
Caia Gelli,
Moforehan Abinusawa, Whittaker, and
Christiana Nwachuku clocked in with a program-record time of 43.74 to take ninth place overall.
Aliya Garozzo, Nwachuku,
Jocelyn Niemiec, and Whittaker picked up a 10th-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:29.93.
Despite running to a program-record time of 11.28 in the 100m, Abinusawa just missed out on qualification to NCAA Championships in finishing in 14th place.
Another notable miss was
Bronwyn Patterson, who timed in at 2:03.18 in the 800m to finish 14th with a personal best and second-fastest time in program history.
In the field,
Sarah Lavery was in the thick of a battle throughout the competition in the high jump, reaching a personal-best mark of 1.78m (5-9 ¼) to finish in a tie for 14th place, while
Tumi Onaleye reached 12.49m (40-11 ¾) in the triple jump to take 32nd.
