#13 MLAX Continues Ivy Action at #11 Yale on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The nationally recognized University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team is back on the road this weekend, heading to New Haven on Saturday, April 6, for a top 15 Ivy League battle with #11 Yale.

Last Time Out
*Penn moved to 3-0 in Ivy League action and first place in the standings after beating #7 Cornell in an 11-10 double overtime thriller at Franklin Field last weekend.
 
*Senior Cam Rubin carried the Quakers to victory, scoring a season-high six goals, including the game-winner two minutes into the second overtime.
 
*Senior keeper Emmet Carroll held strong the entire game, tying his season-high 17 saves, with his 17th stop of the game coming from the first extra period to help keep the game alive. Carroll did it all defensively, recording a pair of turnovers and ground balls to go with his double-figure tally.
 
*Defenseman Brendan Lavelle showed why he earned the honor earlier this week, leading the defense in turnovers (4) and ground balls (3).
 
*Five Quakers, including Rubin, hit the back of Cornell's net, with sophomore Griffin Scane netting two to account for the other multi-goal scoring in the contest. Chris Canet, James Shipley, and Ben Smith each scored once to even out the goals against Cornell.
 
Ivy League Weekly Sweep
*The Quakers swept the Ivy League men's lacrosse weekly awards announced by the conference this past Monday.
 
*Senior Carroll nabbed Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, while senior Rubin garnered Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week to account for the Red and Blue's first sweep of the weekly awards this season.
 
 *This is Carroll's second DPOTW nod of the season and fourth for the Quakers. Rubin grabbed his and Penn's first OPOTW award this year.
 
Rubin's on the USILA Team of the Week
*Rubin lacrosse landed a spot on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Team of the Week announced on Wednesday afternoon.
 
*The attacker carried Penn's offense in last weekend's 11-10 double-overtime victory over #7 Cornell, scoring a season-high six goals, including the game-winner to help push the Quakers into first place in the Ivy League standings.
 
*The senior is the third Quaker to earn a spot on the Team of the Week, with goalkeeper Carroll and defenseman Lavelle grabbing spots on the team back in March.

Leading the NCAA
*Carroll is the only goalkeeper in all of DI NCAA men's lacrosse that holds a save percentage above .600, docking a .604 to lead the nation.
 
Leading the Ivies
*Keeper Carroll currently leads all Ivy League goalkeepers in saves per game, totaling 159 saves on the season and averaging 14.45 per game. The Rye, N.Y. native is also second among goalkeepers in save percentage (.593) and goals-against-average (9.85).
  
*Junior Tynan Walsh sits in the top ten of multiple offensive stats, holding sixth in assists per game (1.6) and ninth in points per game (3.50).
  
*FOGO Ethan Costanzo and defender Lavelle cracked the top ten in the conference in ground balls per game. Sophomore Costanzo sits eighth in the standings (3.33), while Lavelle holds tenth (3.27).
 
*Lavelle also helps lead the conference in caused turnovers, forcing opponents to cause 1.45 per game.
 
The Series with Yale
*The Bulldogs have a slight all-time advantage in the series, leading 41-32.
 
*The Quakers own the last two wins coming from the regular season in 2023 and the postseason of the 2022 campaign.
 
*Yale holds a home-field advantage of 21-12 when these two teams battle in New Haven, with Penn's last road win coming from the 2014 season.

Last Time We Met
*The Red and Blue carry a two-game streak into Saturday's matchup, with the latest meeting being a 17-16 contest.
 
*Smith and Walsh led the scoring in the home victory, tallying four goals each. Smith and Sam Handley both recorded five points to lead the offense as a whole.
 
*Defender Lavelle led the defense with four caused turnovers.
 
*Chris Arceri was a force in the X, going 20-34 while scooping up a team-high ten ground balls.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs
*Yale brings back-to-back wins into this weekend's battle, with its latest win being a 16-10 Ivy League victory over Brown.
 
*The Bulldogs are the only other opponent the Quakers have played that has also beaten the #1 team in the country this season.
 
*Matt Brandau leads Yale's offense in points (52), assists (29), and goals (23).
