PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania softball team dropped both games of its twin bill on Saturday afternoon at Penn Park.
The Quakers fell in game one 10-0 in five innings, while dropping game two, 7-1.
FINAL: Dartmouth 10, Penn 0
The Big Green opened the game with a run in the top of the first when
Megan Huang made a spectacular diving catch in foul territory in left field with a pair of runners on, as the runner at third crossed the plate for the first run of the game. Dartmouth added three runs on four hits to lead 4-0 after the top of the second.
In the top of the third, The Big Green loaded the bases with no outs, and added a pair of runs with a walk and single.
Olivia Szewczyk then entered the game and surrendered a double and a single, as at the end of the inning, Dartmouth led 9-0.
Penn collected its lone hit in game one in the bottom of the fourth, when
Sammy Fenton singled though the right side.
Kelly Beaupre launched her first home run of the day in the bottom of the fifth to close out the scoring for game one.
FINAL: Dartmouth 7, Penn 1
The scoring began in the bottom of the second when Justice Malone landed on third after an error on a ball hit to center.
In the bottom of the second,
Dakota Farmer led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second when
Jillian Kuntze laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Brianna Brown then singled to second base, putting two in scoring position. On the very next play, Brown took off for second and the throw sailed into center field, allowing Farmer to cross the plate.
After the first two runners reached safely in the top of the third,
Kelly Zybura entered the game for starting pitcher
Payton Bean. On three total hits, Dartmouth added four runs, to lead 5-1.
In the top of the sixth, Beaupre sent another homer over the left field wall, this time a two-run shot, to extend the lead, 7-1.
That score held as the Quakers fell by six.
Quaker Notemeal
- In game one, the Red and Blue drew four walks.
- Riley tossed 2.1 innings, gave up seven runs, five earned runs with three walks. Szewczyk tossed 2.2 innings, surrendered six hits and one earned run.
- In game two, Fenton collected a pair of hits, totaling three on the doubleheader, while Brown added another hit.
- Farmer was the lone Quaker to cross the plate.
- In game two, Bean threw two innings while surrendering a pair of earned runs on two hits.
- Zybura threw five relief innings, allowing four earned runs and six hits.
