PHILADELPHIA – The No. 14 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team got a record-setting performance from junior
Erika Chung as the offense exploded for a 19-13 win over Brown Saturday at Franklin Field.
Chung dished out eight assists in the win, a program single-game record. The previous mark of seven was originally set by Erin Brennan in 2012 and matched by Emily Rogers-Healion in 2018; coincidentally, the opponent for both of those games was Rutgers.
Perhaps more importantly, the win clinched a bid in the Ivy League Tournament for Penn as the Quakers improved to 4-2 in league play and 11-3 overall. Brown fell to 9-5 overall and was eliminated from ILT consideration with a 2-4 conference mark.

How It Happened
It became apparent early that this was going to be a track meet, Brown needing just 17 seconds to get on the board and making it 2-0 less than five minutes in. Penn got it going after that, scoring three goals in a 3:10 span and taking its first lead when Miles beat a pair of defenders and put her shot in the upper right corner. The Bears came back with the next two goals, just 47 seconds apart, then took the lead again after Edmonds had tied it. Brown led after one, 5-4.
Brandt scored unassisted on an extra-player situation and that started a three-goal run for the Quakers, Miles attacking for her third goal and the—after a Brown timeout—
Julia Chai finishing a Chung feed just 25 seconds later. Brown again answered, scoring twice to tie things at 7-7, but Penn used another three-goal run to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Miles was involved in all three, feeding Berkery for the first, scoring the second on a rifle from the top of the fan, and scoring the third on a free-position chance from directly in front. Brown got one back, but Penn took a 10-8 lead into the break.
Brown opened the second-half scoring,
Kelly Van Hoesen stopping a pair of free-position shots but getting beaten on a nice offensive set.
Bella Kehoe restored Penn's two-goal advantage off a Chung feed, then Chung found Brandt in an extra-player situation on the left side. Penn got sloppy on a clear after that, allowing Brown to get back within two with nine minutes left in the period, but then the Quakers scored twice in extra-player situations, Block hitting first with 6:39 left and
Gracie Smith finishing a Chung feed with 4:01 to play. The lead was 14-11 after three.
Penn scored the first three goals of the final period and that allowed for some breathing room. Block fed Berkery for a quick-stick goal three minutes into the period, then Edmonds converted a free-position opportunity. Chung's record-setting assist came just 32 seconds later, as she found Berkery to make the score 17-11. Brown hung around, scoring the next two goals, but Penn shut out Bruno for the final 5:21 and got goals from Edmonds and Block to close things out.
