PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team and Cornell sparred back-and-forth throughout the day, with the Big Red coming out on top of an 11-9 final Sunday afternoon at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium.

How It Happened
Just like how Game 1 started on Saturday, Cornell struck first and early with a four-run first inning, capped by a three-run shot down the left-field line to go out in front, 4-0.
Â
Penn answered right back with a two-run single from
Gavin Collins, cutting into Cornell's 4-2 advantage. The Quakers tacked on a third off
Wyatt Henseler's sacrifice fly in the second inning, making it a one-run contest.
Â
Starter
Josh Katz cruised through the third, fourth, and fifth innings without allowing a run and tallied three strikeouts before turning the ball over to
Thomas Shurtleff to record the final out in the fifth.
Â
Facing Shurtleff—and then
Will Tobin—in the top of the sixth, two singles scored three runs as the Big Red registered four total hits on two Penn errors to take a 7-3 lead.
Â
The Quakers got to work in the bottom of the inning, as
Carson Ozmer walked and
Jarrett Pokrovsky singled with one out. An
Asa Wilson two-run double to right center field cut the Cornell lead down to 7-5 and with two outs,
Davis Baker laced a single right center field to score Wilson and make it a one-run game at 7-6. With the bases juiced,
Nick Spaventa came through in the clutch with a go-ahead, bases-clearing double to left center to give Penn the 9-7 lead and put the exclamation point on a six-run sixth.
Â
Eli Trop surrendered a hit and recorded three fly-outs to get out of the seventh unscathed with a two-run lead, while the Quakers' order was retired despite a Pokrovsky hit-by-pitch and a walk to Wilson.
Â
Trop retired two Big Red batters to begin the eighth inning, but Cornell quickly loaded the bases back up for Saturday's hero, Caden Wildman, who delivered another big knock, a go-ahead bases-clearing double to take a 10-9 lead. The Big Red added another run on an RBI single to take an 11-9 advantage into the bottom of the frame.
Â
Penn's only baserunner the rest of the way was
Ryan Taylor in the eighth, who reached on an error, as Cornell pitching retired the final four hitters to leave Tommy Lasorda Field with the 11-9 win.
