PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team opened the Ivy Invitational on Friday afternoon on Lake Carnegie. The 10th-ranked Quakers were victorious in the Third Varsity Eights race, took second to sixth-ranked Brown in all three NCAA boats (1V8, 2V8, V4A), and was fourth in the Second Varsity Fours race. The Bears and Quakers were joined by No. 20 USC in the three races featuring NCAA boats.

Varsity Eight
Penn finished second in this race, Brown the victor and USC a distant third. Brown burst out to a boat-length lead in the opening 500 and held it the rest of the way. Penn cut into the Bears' lead in the final 500 but ran out of room before coming all the way back.

Second Varsity Eight
Penn was second in this race, as well, as Brown took over in the second 500 and cruised through the back half to an 11-second victory. USC was a distant third.

Varsity Four
All three boats had open water within the first minute of racing and that essentially set the tone for the entire 2,000 meters. Brown downed Penn by a little more than 11 seconds, while the Quakers were more than 17 seconds ahead of USC.

Second Varsity Four
Brown had open water within 30 seconds in this race and never looked back, winning by nearly 25 seconds. Rutgers V4C made a move in the third 500 to separate from Columbia and Penn, and the Lions nipped the Quakers at the line by a little less than a second.

Penn got out early on the two Brown boats in the race and never let up, ultimately earning about a three-second victory over the Bears' 3V8.
