PHILADELPHIA – There was no stopping sophomore
Skyelar Kerico this season, named Gymnast of the Year by the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) and announced Saturday evening after the conclusion of 2024 GEC Championships.

Kerico has been a game-changing competitor for the Quakers on all four events this season. Since adding in floor mid-season, she has shattered personal bests and school records in the all-around.
Â
This season, the five-time first-team All-GEC selection has earned personal bests of 9.825 on vault, 9.875 on bars, 9.900 on beam and 9.900 on floor. She broke Penn's individual all-around record with a 39.325, a 12-year-old school record and now holds the top three all-around scores in program history.
Â
In the conference, she finished the regular season ranked No. 5 on vault with a 9.805 NQS, No. 2 on bars with a 9.835 NQS, No. 5 on beam with a 9.8 NQS and No. 6 on floor with a 9.835 NQS. She is also currently the No. 1 ranked all-arounder in the GEC with a NQS of 39.185.
Â
Kerico's stellar year helped the Quakers complete the 'treble,' winning the Ivy Classic, GEC regular season and GEC Championship titles to close out the 2024 campaign. She also took home a pair of individual titles at GECs on balance beam and all-around.
Â
Kerico is Penn's first Gymnast of the Year award winner since current head coach
Kirsten Becker (Strausbaugh) in 2012 where she earned ECAC Athlete of the Year honors, and is the sixth gymnast in program history to win the award.
