PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's swimming and diving programs are set to compete in the Big Al Invitational at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool this weekend. The teams will compete in the three-day event with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. each day and finals set to begin at 5 p.m.
The men (1-4, 0-4 Ivy) picked up blemishes against Princeton and Cornell the last time out, while the women (6-2, 2-2 Ivy) collected a win against the Big Red, but fell to the Tigers.
The event will be streamed live through ESPN+ on all three days.
Quaker Notemeal
*On the men's side,
Matt Fallon excelled, earning wins in the 100 breaststroke (52.84), 200 breast (1:54.89), and 200 IM (1:49.15).
*In the 100 breast,
Watson Nguyen finished second (54.36) and
Colin Zhang placed third (54.37). Zhang also took second in the 200 breast with a time of 1:58.11. Fallon led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM, as
Peter Whittington placed second at 1:49.62 and Zhang took third at 1:51.01.

Liam Campbell placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.29. Similarly,
James Curreri earned a win in the 500 free (4:25.95).

Jeffrey Hou took a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (49.68) and 100 butterfly (48.42).

Max Malakhovets clocked a 1:46.32 in the 200 fly to finish third.
*On the diving board,
Cody Hopkins coupled second-place finishes in the one-meter (285.80) and three-meter (327.15) dives.
*For the women,
Kayla Fu recorded three event wins for the second straight meet, while
Anna Moehn tallied Penn's other two wins in distance races.
*Fu found victories in the 50 freestyle (22.70), 100 free (49.17), and 100 butterfly (53.29). She was a tenth from re-setting the school record in the 100 fly after breaking the mark in the previous meet.
*Moehn secured a win in the 1,000 free (9:42.21).
Sydney Bergstrom placed second (9:50.64) with
Anna Boeckman in third (10:05.60). Furthermore, Moehn won the 500 free with a time of 4:46.19. Bergstrom swam a 4:53.75 to finish third.
*The Quaker women took second in the 100 backstroke (
Kate Levensten), 200 fly (
Joy Jiang) and 200 back (
Katya Eruslanova). In addition, the team finished 2-3-4-5 in the 100 breaststroke,
Izzy Pytel led the pack, followed by
Kate Handley,
Meredith Holcomb, and
Abby Druhan.
*On the diving board,
Rachel Yang partnered third-place finishes in the one-meter (278.30) and three-meter (274.25) dives.
Scouting the Opponents
Penn will face off against George Washington (M 3-2, W 4-1), Princeton (M 5-0, W 5-0), and Columbia (M 1-3, W 0-3) this weekend.
