Record Scoring Output Highlights WBB’s 114-39 Win Over Immaculata

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team's offense exploded for a program-record 114 points Tuesday evening in a 114-39 victory over Immaculata at The Palestra.

Five players notched double figures for the Quakers (4-3), led by 16 for both Sarah Miller and Mataya Gayle. Not only is the scoring output against the Mighty Macs (5-1) a new program record, but the point differential (75) also sets a new standard at Penn.

Quaker Notemeal
*Penn's 114 points are the most scored in a single game in program history, breaking the previous mark set back on March 3, 1988 against Columbia.

*The 75-point scoring differential is the Quakers' largest margin of victory in program history, besting the previous mark of 65 set back on Dec. 31, 2014 against King's College.

*Penn out-rebounded Immaculata, 65-27. The mark was six shy of the program record 71 set back on Jan. 30, 1979 vs. Swarthmore.

*Five players—Sarah Miller (16), Mataya Gayle (16), Saniah Caldwell (12), Tina Njike (12), and Stina Almqvist (10)—reached double figures in scoring, the first time that many players did so since March 16, 2019 vs. Harvard.

*Penn converted 17 three-pointers as a team with four each for Miller, Gayle, and Caldwell.

*Almqvist finished a rebound shy of a double-double (10 pts, 9 reb), but reached double-digit scoring figures for the 14th straight game dating back to the end of last season.

*32 of Penn's 46 field goals were assisted on, with four each for Gabriella Kelley, Katie Collins, and Gayle.

*Penn's bench outscored Immaculata's, 60-10.

*The Quakers never trailed in the contest and the score was tied once at 2-2 early in the first quarter.

How It Happened
Penn won the opening tipoff and received the first possession of the game, as Mataya Gayle converted on a layup for an early advantage. She had the Quakers' first five points following a triple from the corner.

The lead extended to as many as 24 points by the end of the first quarter when Stina Almqvist scored on a layup to take a 36-12 advantage. The Mighty Macs scored the second quarter's first two points on a pair of foul shots from Alyssa Long, but the Quakers ended up going on a 22-2 run to lead by 44 points, 60-16, with 3:28 remaining in the half. Saniah Caldwell put down a three-pointer with 21 seconds left as Penn took a 63-20 edge into the locker room.

Penn opened the third stanza on a 10-4 push to lead by 49 points with 6:28 left. After Immaculata cut the deficit back to 46 on a free throw from Carly Coleman, the Quakers used another three from Caldwell and a layup from Tina Njike to push further ahead, 78-27. It was eight unanswered to end the third quarter for the Red and Blue, six of which came on a pair of triples for Caldwell, as Penn remained ahead 87-33 heading into the final period. The Quakers saw their immense lead increase more and more to start the fourth, opening the stanza on a 16-3 run, capped by Georgia Heine's triple with 5:23 remaining to take a 102-36 lead. Penn scored 10 in a row before Reagan Jamison's jumper with 2:54 on the clock tied the program's scoring record at 111. Off a defensive rebound from Jamison, Brooke Suttle put down a triple from the corner to get Penn the scoring record, as the Quakers took a 114-37 lead with 56 seconds remaining. A layup for Reese Mullins cut the lead to 75 points, but Penn held on for the 114-39 victory.
