WACO, Texas – University of Pennsylvania senior Sabine Rutlauka advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship after a strong performance in her first-round match on Tuesday.

Rutlauka defeated 14th-ranked Amelia Honer of UC Santa Barbara, taking the first set 6-1 before Honer retired in the second set.

Meanwhile, sophomore Esha Velaga faced a tough challenge against Old Dominion's Sofia Johnson, the tournament's eighth seed, and fell 6-4, 6-2.

Rutlauka will return to the court on Wednesday to face Texas A&M's Nicole Khirin at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.
