PHILADELPHIA - Penn track and field women head into the 2024-25 indoor season as defending Ivy league champions following their seventh team title in program history. The men's team finished third with five individual champions, the most individual men at Penn to win gold since 1998.
The Quakers return six indoor conference champions from 2024 to their lineup this season. Leading the women's team will be eight-time Ivy indoor champion
Moforehan Abinusawa.
In 2024, Abinusawa broke the Ivy record in the 60m at the Heptagonal Championships with a time of 7.25. She claimed gold in the 200m with a program record time of 23.52 and was a part of the women's 4x440y relay team that broke the meet record (3:35.73) in Cambridge, Mass. last year.

Christiana Nwachuku and
Jocelyn Niemiec will be making their way back onto the track this season. Nwachuku stepped on the podium three times during the indoor season claiming gold in the 4x440y, silver in the 60m (7.42), and bronze in the 200m (23.97). Niemiec placed second in the 500m (1:12.46). The women's 4x400m relay team finished ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
On the men's team, indoor league champions
Ryan Matulonis,
Shane Gardner, and
Kampton Kam will start moving back indoors for the upcoming season.
During his rookie season, Matulonis broke the Ivy record finishing first with a time of 1:01.22 in the 500m at the Ivy Heptagonal Indoor Championships. He recently finished 20
th in the 400m hurdles at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Gardner broke the program record in the 60m hurdles clocking in first at the Ivy Heptagonal Championships with a time of 7.83.
High Jumper
Kampton Kam cleared 2.18m (7' 1.75") at the league championships to claim his first gold medal as a Quaker. Kam was the only athlete to jump clean through 2.15m (7' 0.5").
The Quakers will kick off the new season in Philadelphia at the Ott Center on Dec. 6 – 7 hosting the Penn Opener. The two-day invitational will begin on Dec. 6 with the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon.
Penn will then return from winter break to host three consecutive home weekend meets, starting the new year with the Penn Select on Jan. 11, followed by the Quaker Invitational on Jan. 17 -18 and the Penn 10 Elite on Jan. 25. The Penn 10 Elite will feature a highly competitive field with athletes traveling to Penn from Virginia, Penn State, Connecticut, Georgetown, Villanova, Harvard, Cornell, Brown, and Howard.
The Quakers will travel to State College, Pa. on Jan. 31 – Feb. 1 to compete at the Penn State National.
In February, Penn will host the Penn Classic on Feb. 8 and the Philadelphia Metro on Feb. 21. The Philadelphia Metro will provide a tune-up opportunity for athletes before entering the championship season.
The team will part ways on Feb. 14-15 competing at the Tiger Pax Invitational in Clemson, S.C. and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass.
Cornell will host the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships on Mar. 1-2 in Ithaca, N.Y. at Barton Hall. The Quakers won the women's 2024 Ivy Indoor Championship with a score of 140 points. The championship season will conclude in Virginia Beach, Va. on Mar. 14-15 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by Norfolk State.
