BOSTON – The University of Pennsylvania women's track team got things started at the UMass Lowell River Hawk Invitational, which is taking place this weekend at the Track at New Balance. The Penn women won three different events on Friday.

In the 60-meter dash,
Moforehan Abinusawa clocked 7.44 seconds in both qualifying and Friday's final, defeating Arizona's Jade Brown (7.52) in the final.
Daniella Oyenuga clocked 7.69 in her heat to qualify for the final, then covered the distance in 7.63 seconds in the final to finish sixth.
Aliya Garozzo earned the win in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 8.55 seconds in her heat and then 8.50 in the final which nipped Yale's Lucija Grd (8.64).
Penn's third win came in the 400, where
Jocelyn Niemiec clocked 54.27 seconds in her heat which was the fastest time among 53 women who ran the distance on Friday. Dartmouth's Jada Jones, who ran in Niemiec's heat, was second in 55.60.
Abinusawa also ran the 200 on Friday and nearly broke a program record. Running in the second heat, she clocked a PR 23.86 seconds which puts her behind only Imani Soler (23.80 in 2017) on Penn's top-10 list. She finished second on the day behind Arizona's McKenna Watson, who finished the first heat in 23.85.
Christiana Nwachuku became just the third Penn runner in history to break 24 seconds in the distance, her 23.98 in the second heat finishing as the third-best time of the day.
Morayo Kassim had the day's 11th-best time, 25.01 seconds.
In the women's weight throw,
Ella Neskora finished third with a top distance of 15.99m (52 feet 5.5 inches) while
Stella Inman was fifth with a best of 15.76m (51 feet 8.5 inches). In the shot put, Inman finished sixth with a top distance of 13.58m (44 feet 6.75 inches).
In the triple jump,
Ijeoma Eziri finished fourth with a long of 12.07m (39 feet 7.25 inches) and
Paris Ivery was eighth at 11.65m (38 feet 2.75 inches). In the long jump, Ivery and Oyenuga finished 15th and 16th, respectively, with distances of 5.37m (17 feet 7.5 inches) and 5.35m (17 feet 6.75 inches).
The women also sent a trio of pole vaulters to the Penn State National Open in State College.
Meghan Hart was fourth with a height of 3.65m (11 feet 11.75 inches) while
Y'Lan Nguyen was fifth and
Kai Eisenhardt was eighth with a height of 3.50m (11 feet 5.75 inches).
