#4 Women’s Squash Begins Ivy League Play, Hosts #9 Cornell on Friday; Travels to #10 Columbia Sunday

PHILADELPHIA- The 4th-ranked University of Pennsylvania men's squash team will be back in action for the first time in 2024, with a pair of Top-10 matchups this weekend.

The Quakers will host 9th-ranked Cornell at 1:30 p.m. at the Penn Squash Center on Friday and will travel to New York to face 6th-ranked Columbia at 1:00 p.m. from the SL Green StreetSquash Center on Sunday.

Last Time Out
Penn is coming off a 9-0 win over #14-ranked Williams, back on December 3. Franka Vidovic, Jana Dweek, Natasha Pensler, Emma Wolf, Grace Lavin, Penelope Oh, Emma Carter, Abbie Rorke and Kelsey Abbrecht all were victorious in the sweep against the Ephs.

Previewing Penn
The Quakers jumped out to a strong start to the season, landing at 7-0 before the end of the calendar year, matching their best start since the 2014-2015 season. Penn is a combined 55-7 against its opponents this season. Lavid and Vidovic have each posted a 6-0 record, while CSA (College Squash Association) First-Team All-American, reining Ivy League Rookie of the year and First Team All-Ivy honoree, Malak Taha is 4-0 to start the year. Senior Avni Anand is 4-0, sophomore Dweek is 5-1 and freshman Sohalia Ismail is 4-1.

Match History
Friday's meeting will be the 30th all-time against the Big Red, as Penn holds a 26-3 advantage in the series. Penn lost its last matchup against Cornell, but previously held a 25-match winning streak that spanned from 2002-2022. The smallest margin of victory was a 5-4 win in 2019. The Quakers are 11-0 at home, and 9-2 on the road against the Big Red.

Sunday's meeting will be the 19th meeting all-time against the Lions, as Penn holds a 13-5 advantage in the series. The Quakers dropped last year's match 4-5 but took down Columbia 6-3 in 2021-2022 season. The longest winning streak spanned from 2007-2017 throughout nine matches. In the last 10 matchups, the teams are 5-5. Penn is 5-2 at home and 4-1 on the road.
