How It Happened
The first quarter saw the teams exchange the lead six times and tie two other times. The Big Green was up 17-14 at the end of the period as Meyer converted a Penn turnover into a bucket in the closing seconds.
Â
It was 19-14 early in the second when Obi and Gayle scored to get the Quakers within one. After the teams traded points to 21-20, Dartmouth reeled off five in a row to take its biggest lead of the day at 26-20 with 3:38 left in the half. However, Penn held their hosts scoreless the rest of the period, and baskets by
Iyanna Rogers—her only points of the day—and Almqvist had Penn within two at the break, 26-24.
Â
Marianna Papazoglou saw her first action to start the second half and immediately announced her presence, knocking down a three-pointer to put Penn in front 27-26. Dartmouth came back with the game's next three points to go back up, 29-27, before Obi and Groetsch scored four unanswered to make it a 31-29 Penn lead. Meyer tied it one more time, but once again Obi and Groetsch scored and Penn had a four-point lead on an 8-2 run. Dartmouth took timeout, but out of the stoppage
Ese Ogbevire scored and the Quakers had their largest lead of the day at 37-31.
Â
Dartmouth got one of those points back to 37-32, but Almqvist then went on a personal nine-point run that bridged the third and fourth quarters and pushed Penn's lead to a double-digit margin as Dartmouth could only respond with a lone field goal. Almqvist's final bucket in the run made the score 46-34 with a little less than seven minutes left, and the Quakers got their lead to as large as 16 before Dartmouth finally got on the board in the final quarter.
