Turner Secures 300th Coaching Win Behind Lucas Match-Winner

PHILADELPHIA – It was a beautiful night to remain undefeated at home on Thursday, as the University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team moved to an unblemished 3-0-0 at Dunning-Cohen Champions Field in Penn Park this season with a 1-0 shutout over Lafayette.

*The victory marked Dr. Krissy Turner's 300th career coaching victory. She began her head coaching career at Lafayette from 1995-97, then was at Monmouth from 1998-2021. She is 300-176-52 all-time.

*The Quakers 3-0-0 start to their home schedule all came on 1-0 clean sheets.

*Sophomore Mallory Lucas scored the match-winner on Thursday, her first of the season and second of her young Penn career. Her other goal came in 2022, also a match-winner in a 2-1 decision over Lehigh.

*Penn totaled 17 shots in the game, 14 of them coming in the second half. On the flip side, the Quaker back line and senior goalkeeper Laurence Gladu held the Leopards to four shots.

*Corner kicks were one sided in the contest, as the Quakers had seven to Lafayette's one.

*Senior Lauren Teuschl and junior Megan Lusher led the team with four shots each, while freshman Abbey Cook and Lucas each added three.

*Gladu tended the net for the full 90 minutes, making three saves. She currently is tied for the lead in the Ivy League with three shutouts, while sporting the second-best goals-against average of .40. She has only surrendered two goals through five matches this season.

*It was good to see senior Ginger Fontenot back on the pitch for the full 90 on Thursday night, after the returning second-team All-Ivy defender had played just one half across Penn's first four matches due to injury.

How It Happened
Much of the first half was figuring out each other's back line as the teams combined for just six shots, three by each side. However, one of those broke the scoring silence when Lucas connected just ahead of the halftime whistle. The goal carried heavy momentum into the half, which clearly transferred into high energy on the other side of halftime.

The second half was fully commanded by the Quakers, who outshot the Leopards, 14-1. In the closing 20 minutes, Lafayette earned its only shot of the half from the left side of the 18, but nothing that Gladu couldn't reel in for her third and final save of the match. Quotables
"Great team performance tonight. I'm pleased with how we played and the chances we created. I am extremely thankful for the opportunities I have had as a coach. Any head coach is only as good as the staff they surround themselves with, and I have been fortunate to work with great people. Mostly thank you to all the players who helped me get to this milestone." – Dr. Krissy Turner, Douglas N. Brush Head Coach of Women's Soccer Up Next
The Quakers hit the road for their next match but don't have to go far, heading to City Avenue to take on Saint Joseph's on Sunday. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
