PHILADELPHIA – the University of Pennsylvania's head volleyball coach,
Meredith Schamun, has announced her captains for the 2023 season. Senior
Emerson Flornes and junior
Ella Green will lead the Quakers this fall, starting this weekend when the Red and Blue travels to Houston Christian University to participate in the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament.
"It is no surprise that Emmy and Ella were selected to be team captains," said Schamun. "They put in the work this past spring to help build a new foundation for this program, and they continue to lift their teammates up every day in practice. Both of them are fearless and selfless, and they are great examples of how to lead with humility. I look forward to their leadership this season."
Flornes has been a regular in Penn's lineup each of the last two years, making 17 starts and playing in 66 sets last season. She led the Quakers with 45 blocks (5s/40a) and also had 76 kills, 23 digs, eight service aces and two assists. As a sophomore in 2021, Flornes was third on the team with 35 blocks (3s/32a) and also finished with 57 kills, 23 digs, eight assists and seven service aces.

Green reached double figures in kills 10 times overall last season, including eight times in Ivy League play. She also had 49 digs, four service aces and five assists last year.
