"We are extremely excited to start the 2023-2024 season," said Lane, who oversees the Quakers' men's program. "While we lost some experienced players through graduation, we are excited to welcome a young and talented class to help us improve on last year's fourth-place finish nationally. We look forward to challenging for an Ivy League championship as well as a high national ranking. It is an exciting time for the program!"
"The 2023–24 schedule will be a great test for our program," said Wyant, who serves as Director of Squash and coaches the Penn women. "Every pre-season top 10 team is on the schedule, but we are fortunate to host more than half of our matches at the Penn Squash Center. The returning student-athletes have worked hard this summer and are aiming to improve upon last year's ninth-place finish. The team is keen to reconnect soon and work to achieve this goal."
The season once again kicks off with the Ivy Scrimmages the weekend of November 4-5 at Yale, followed by the Pennsylvania State Championships which Penn and Drexel will host a week later. Three more 2023 match dates are on the calendar after that, before the teams take a break for the holidays.
Ivy League play starts on Saturday, Jan. 19 with Cornell at the Penn Squash Center followed by a trip to the Big Apple to face Columbia two days later. Dartmouth and defending men's and women's champion Harvard come to Philly the weekend of January 27 and 28, before the Quakers play three straight road matches at Yale (Friday, Feb. 3), Trinity (Saturday, Feb. 4) and Princeton (Saturday, Feb. 10).
The 2023-24 campaign will be highlighted by a change in how the College Squash Association (CSA) determines its national champions in both men's and women's squash. Moving away from the previous eight-team format—with the women's championship (Howe Cup) one weekend and the men's championship (Potter Cup) the next—the CSA will bring the top 12 teams in both genders to the Arlen Specter Squash Center at Drexel the weekend of February 29-March 3. The top four teams will get a bye into the quarterfinal round of the bracket, while the first-round features matches between the 5 and 12 seeds playing to meet the 4 seed; the 6 and 11 seeds playing to meet the 3 seed; the 7 and 10 seeds playing to meet the 2 seed; and the 8 and 9 seeds playing to meet the 1 seed.
