PHILADELPHIA – Honored for success in the classroom in addition to on the field, University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse graduates
Sam Handley and
Piper Bond added one more honor to their lengthy list of season awards, named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-Americans earlier this week. In addition, Penn earned the USILA Team Academic Award for the 2023 season.

The USILA recognizes teams with GPAs of 3.0 or higher and individuals with cumulative GPAs higher than 3.0 as well.

Handley, a Business Analytics and Management major, enjoyed tremendous success in his final season with the Quakers. He led his team with a team-high 55 points, 30 goals and 24 assists, while registering three game-winning goals. Handley concluded his career with the fourth-most points in program history (194), the fifth-most assists (90) and the sixth-most goals (104). The three-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection and three-time consensus first-team All-American was named a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Award this year and was drafted fourth overall in the PLL Draft by Chrome Lacrosse Club in May. Earlier this month, Handley was named PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for the second consecutive campaign.

Bond, an Economics major, was named a first-team All-Ivy selection for the second straight year, finishing the season tied for second on the team with 33 ground balls, the most among non-FOGOs, adding seven caused turnovers. He scored a goal against Duke in the home opener and was named the Quakers' Academic All-Ivy representative. The Baltimore, Md. native was selected with the 21st overall pick in the PLL Draft by Archers Lacrosse Club.

Handley and Bond were two of 111 Division I men's lacrosse players named to the USILA Scholar All-America list, along with six others from Ivy League institutions.
