Pokrovsky's Clutch Hitting Nets Ivy League Rookie of the Week Honors

PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania baseball outfielder Jarrett Pokrovsky was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Pokrovsky hit .333 (4-for-12) in Penn's Ivy League regular season championship-clinching sweep of Columbia over the weekend.

In Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, Pokrovsky launched a two-run, go-ahead home run in the sixth inning, his first as a Quaker, in an 8-3 Penn win.

In Game 2, after the Red and Blue had rallied from four runs down to tie in the ninth, the Pittsgrove, N.J. native lined a walk-off single up the middle.

With Penn one win from its first outright conference regular season title in 28 years, Pokrovsky finished the final game of the series Sunday 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Penn opens the inaugural Ivy League Tournament Friday at 3 p.m. against Columbia from Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium. The winner of that game will play at 3 p.m. on Saturday against the winner of Harvard and Yale.
