Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops Both Games to Creighton

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – It was a quiet day at the plate for the University of Pennsylvania softball team as it dropped a pair of run-rule victories to Creighton University at R.O.C. Park on Wednesday. The Quakers tallied just one hit in 10 total innings while allowing 18 runs on 22 hits to the Blue Jays.

GAME 1 | FINAL/5: Creighton 10, Penn 0
It did not take long for the Blue Jays to take control of the first game as they dominated the entire five inning affair from all aspects.

The Creighton pitcher in game one pitched a five-inning complete game one-hitter allowing just five total Quakers base runners in three separate innings. The only hit off the Penn bats was a Delaney Smith one-out base hit to left in the second inning. The Red and Blue also had bases runners via the walk in the third and fifth innings. Two batters reached on fielder's choices in the second and fifth innings.

Creighton scored all 10 of its runs between the second and fourth innings. After putting up three runs in the second inning the Blue Jays doubled their lead via a three-run home run over the right center wall to go up 6-0. The final four Blue Jay runs came off three separate base hits.

GAME 2 | FINAL/5: Creighton 8, Penn 0
The Quakers bats did not come alive in the second game as they were held hitless for the second time in two seasons. Penn stranded base runners in the second, third, and fifth innings as it saw runners advance as far as second but no further.

Creighton had a pair of crooked number innings to take game two, 8-0. Two runs in the first inning and six runs in the third inning proved to be the difference.

QUAKER NOTEMEAL
  • Penn was held hitless for the second time in as many seasons in game two on Wednesday. Previously, the Quakers fell victim to a no-hitter last season at #5 UCLA (3/10/22).
  • 14 losses to begin a season surpasses the 1992 team that opened its season with 13 straight losses.

UP NEXT
