PHILADELPHIA – A dominant Friday night on the mound for
Owen Coady earned the senior his second career Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
In just his fifth collegiate start, Coady led Penn to its first win of the season against Lamar with a career-high seven inning effort, allowing just one hit and an unearned run. The southpaw retired the first 16 batters of the game before a one-out double in the sixth broke up the perfect game. In all, he retired 22 of the 25 batters he faced.
Through two starts this season, Coady is allowing an opponent batting average of just .171 with an equally impressive WHIP of 1.06.
Coady won last season's first conference hurler of the week honor after 4.2 scoreless innings of relief helped Penn knock off SEC member Texas A&M, who went on to play in the College World Series.
The Quakers open a two-game series with Nicholls State Tuesday at 7:30, continuing an eight-game road trip through Texas and Louisiana..
