PHILADELPHIA – Three members of the University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team—senior middie
Sam Handley, senior SSDM
Piper Bond and junior goalie
Emmet Carroll—were named Midseason All-Americans on Friday afternoon, announced by Inside Lacrosse.
Handley was tabbed to the first team, while Bond earned a spot on the third team and Carroll grabbed honorable-mention recognition.
Handley has led the Penn offense through seven games this season, leading the team in goals (14), assists (12) and points (26), scoring two hat tricks in his last four games and scoring multiple goals in four consecutive outings. He's creeping up the Quakers' record book as well in a variety of categories, currently sitting seventh in career points (165), 10th in goals (88) and a tie for sixth in assists (77).
While not donning the fancy numbers like Handley through seven games, Bond's impact has surely been felt in other areas. He scored a goal against Duke earlier in the season, but since then, he's been a primary reason Penn's defense has been so dominant. The Quakers have held opponents to under 10 goals three times this season, going 2-1 in those games including a 9-8 overtime victory over Princeton to begin Ivy play. Bond is second on the team with 15 ground balls, adding a caused turnover.
Carroll has broke onto the scene as one of the Ivy League's elite goalkeepers, also making a name for himself on the national level as well. He currently ranks third among Ivy goaltenders in save percentage (.539) and saves per game (13.86) and is fourth for GAA (11.72). He ranks ninth and 16th nationally in saves per game and save percentage, respectively. After an 18-save performance to open the season at Georgetown (in a game which he stopped 72 percent of the Hoyas' shots), Carroll was named to the USILA National Team of the Week on Feb. 20.
Ranked No. 19 in the country by Inside Lacrosse, Penn hosts No. 20 Yale Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field for Alumni Day, presented by The Study at University City.
