Baseball Takes Series Win Over Tulane With Wild 13-10 Victory

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team scored a season-high 13 runs in a 13-10 win over Tulane Sunday afternoon, taking the rubber game of a three-game set.

The Quakers took full advantage of four errors and four wild pitches by the Green Wave to score seven unearned runs.

* Wyatt Henseler went 2-for-6, homering for the second straight game and third time in the last four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn loaded the bases with nobody out in the first, but a strikeout and double play wiped out the scoring threat; Appel led off with a double, reaching base in the first for the third straight game.

In the bottom of the second, Tulane was in position to throw a crooked number on the scoreboard after a one-out RBI triple, but a Dromboski strikeout and highlight-reel diving play from Henseler at third kept the early deficit at a single run.

Henseler added a highlight at the plate in the top of the third, launching a two-out, full strike moonshot over the right field wall, shooting Penn out in front.

After Dromboski turned in a scoreless third, with Henseler starting a 5-4-3 double play in the inning, the Green Wave tied the game in the fourth on a solo home run.

Penn took advantage of a pair of miscues in the field to grab the lead back in the fifth. With one out, Seth Werchan singled for the second time in the game, then advanced to third when Appel reached on an error. Werchan then came home to score on a wild pitch.

Henseler's busy day at the hot corner continued in the Tulane fifth. After a one-out triple brought the infield in, the junior snagged a one-hopper and cut down the runner, who broke for home on contact.

Baker started the sixth with a single and took third on a hit-and-run when Pokrovsky followed with another single. With one out, Brown brought in Baker with a sac fly to left-center.

With two out and nobody on in the seventh, Penn took advantage of a Green Wave error to create a little breathing room. After Miller walked, Henseler reached on an error by his hot corner counterpart. Baker and pinch-hitter Cole Palis followed with RBI singles, and Baker scampered home on a wild pitch.

Tulane closed to 7-4 on a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, but Penn got those runs right back in the eighth, adding a few more for good measure.

Brown led off with a single and went first-to-third on a hit-and-run single by Ryan Taylor. After a wild pitch scored Brown and Werchan drew a walk, Appel's sacrifice bunt turned into a run on a throwing error by the Tulane pitcher.

After Miller reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, Baker drove in Werchan and Appel with a base hit to left.

After missing a three-run homer by inches, pinch-hitter Carson Ozmer reached on an infield hit to reload the bases, and Brown followed with a bloop double down the right field line, scoring Miller and Baker to make it 13-4.

The wild affair got a little wilder in the ninth, as Tulane scored six times, all with two out, and brought the tying run to the plate before Edward Sarti closed out the series victory.
