#9 Women Fall to #3 Princeton as Squash Splits with Tigers

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams split their final Ivy League matches of the season against Princeton Saturday afternoon from the Penn Squash Center, with the men winning and the women falling by identical 8-1 scores.

The #2 team in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings, the men dropped the opening match of the day to the #3 Tigers, then won eight in a row to put a definitive stamp on the contest.

Nick Spizzirri and Omar Hafez picked up 3-0 wins giving the Quakers a 2-1 edge at the end of the first wave. The second wave opened with victories from Dana Santry and Roger Baddour, putting Penn up 4-1.

As he did last year against Princeton, Saksham Choudhary picked up Penn's fifth point to clinch the match. Abdelrahman Dweek and Nathan Kueh followed with two more wins to make it 7-1 and Dillon Huang closes out the match with the Quaker's fourth 3-0 win of the day.

For the women, #3 Princeton swept the first wave, with Ashley Manning and Avni Anand pushing their matches to a fourth game, then took the first two matches of the second wave to clinch the match. Jana Dweek went five games in her match and had match ball in the final game, but eventually fell 12-10.

After two more victories for Princeton, Malak Taha closed the day with a four-game win for the ninth-ranked Quakers.

The women are back in action against Virginia next Friday at 4:30 from the Penn Squash Center. The men will face the Cavaliers on Thursday, February 16, in Baltimore.
