Fencing Posts Five Wins At Temple Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – In their final event of the season before NCAA Regional competition, the University of Pennsylvania's men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Temple Invitational Sunday from McGonigle Hall, with the women picking up three victories and the men picking up two.

Each side opened the day with wins over Johns Hopkins, the men winning 21-6 and the women winning 16-11; each men's weapon group won at least six bouts, while the women's epeeists went 9-0. The women followed with a 16-11 win over St. John's, the foilists winning all nine bouts in that contest.

After a pair of losses to Penn State, the men picked up a 16-11 win over Stevens and the women narrowly knocked off the host Owls 14-13. The male sabreists went 7-2 and the female epeeists went 6-3.

Each side wrapped the day with defeats at the hands of Princeton. The teams will return to competition at the NCAA Regional on Saturday, March 11.
