HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Pennsylvania men's squash team fell 5-4 to Trinity on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Potter Cup at the College Squash Association (CSA) Men's Team Championships.
Just the third 5-4 match for the Quakers in the last two years, and the second in Potter Cup competition,
Dillon Huang staked Penn to a 1-0 lead with a three-game win wrapped in 34 minutes, the second-quickest match of the day.
Omar Hafez opened the second wave with a four-game win, knotting the match at two after Yale closed the first wave with two wins.
Saksham Choudhary followed Hafez with a three-game, 32-minute win, the quickest match of the day, for his 51
st career win, moving into sole possession for third-most in program history.
After Yale knotted the match at three,
Nick Spizzirri, in the longest match of the day at one hour and eight minutes, battled back from a 2-0 hole, silencing a growing home Trinity crowd with a dramatic five-game win, putting Penn back in front 4-3.
Yale closed the match with a pair of four-game wins to advance to the National Championship against Harvard tomorrow afternoon.
Penn will wrap team competition for the 2022-23 season tomorrow against Yale at 11 AM in the Potter Cup third place match.
