Men's Squash Heads to Hartford For Potter Cup, Open With Drexel Friday

HARTFORD, Conn. – Entering its ninth consecutive Potter Cup, the University of Pennsylvania's men's squash team will aim to claim the program's first national title at the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships, starting this Friday against Philly foe Drexel.
 
Previewing Penn
The Quakers recently finished a 15-1 regular season, stretching their record to 31-1 over the last two regular seasons while extending their regular season record at the Penn Squash Center to 27-0. Omar Hafez was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year after an 13-1 season, Penn's second straight year nabbing the top freshman honor in the conference.
 
2021-22 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Nathan Kueh, Nick Spizzirri, and Roger Baddour were all named First-Team All-Ivy, the first trio of Quakers in program history to achieve such recognition in the same season.
 
Penn's regular season included wins against teams at #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11, #12, and #13 in the final regular season rankings.

Drexel briefly led Penn in the match back in November, 2-1, after the first wave before Penn won the final six matches of the day.
 
Previewing the Dragons
Drexel finished the regular season 8-7. They finished runners-up at the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship to Virginia.
Their Top 15 wins came over Chatham, Rochester, and Cornell, while suffering losses to each of the CSA Top 6 (Harvard, Penn, Princeton, Yale, Virginia, and Trinity).
 
The Dragons have never advanced to the semifinal round of the Potter Cup, losing each of their two prior quarterfinal appearances.         
 
Potter Cup Information
The Potter Cup serves as the premier event in men's collegiate squash, with the top eight teams competing for a national championship. Each team plays three matches regardless of results, with the completed matches serving to reseed each of the eight programs at the end of the year.
 
With a win Friday, the Quakers would play the winner of #3 Princeton and #6 Trinity at 2:30 on Saturday. Should seeding hold through Saturday, Penn would play #1 Harvard on Sunday at 1:30 in a rematch of the last two Potter Cup Finals on Sunday.
