PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's fencing team completed its first tournament of the 2023-24 season at Temple on Saturday.
Freshman Leah Blum highlighted Penn's outing at the Temple Open, winning gold in sabre to open her collegiate career with the Quakers. Senior Sabrina Cho led Penn's upperclassmen at the meet, taking second place in foil. The Quakers had two other top-five finishes, with junior Hailey Lu grabbing tied third place in sabre and freshman Victoria Kuznetsov opening her Penn career with a fourth-place finish in epee.
The Red and Blue had five freshmen make their first collegiate debuts at Temple, including Blum's gold medal and Kuznetsov's second-place finish. Katherine Andres, Samantha Hsiung, and Alexis Bienstock all finished in the top 50 of their first Penn outings, with Andres swiping sixth place in sabre.
