PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams continued their rapid start to the season as each team picked up a win on Friday at the Penn Squash Center and remained 4-0.
The top-ranked men's team took down 15th-ranked Western Ontario, 9-0, while the fifth-ranked women's team knocked off fourth-ranked Stanford, 7-2.
Franka Vidovic,
Malak Taha,
Ashna Tumuluri and
Natasha Pensler were the first four to see the court for the Quaker women. Penn's number three in the lineup, Vidovic was the first to pick up a victory as she took down her opponent in just three games and 24 minutes.
The Quakers' number one, Taha battled throughout to earn her victory. After winning her first two games she dropped game three but was able to pick up an 11-6 win in game four to close out the match. As for Tumuluri, she won her opening game but fell in game two, forcing her to win two in a row to pick up the victory.
The next wave for Penn included
Grace Lavin and
Sohaila Ismail, both of whom picked up victories for the Quakers. Lavin began to pull away in the opening game, eventually capping off a 12-10 win. Lavin then won game two, before dropping game three to then dominate game four 11-2.
Ismail was one of two Quaker women who swept their opponents, as she earned the win in 31 minutes.
Rounding out the day for the women were
Jana Dweek,
Avni Anand and
Emma Wolf. Dweek found herself playing from behind as she dropped game one. Although she earned the victory 14-12 in game two, she dropped the next two.
Avni also dropped her first game, but was able to win games two and three, eventually forcing a game five. Avni rallied down 8-5 in the final game to eventually capture the point for Penn. Â Wolf won her first two games and took game four by two points to seal the deal.
As for the men's side
Omar Hafez,
Rehan Luthra,
Dana Santry and
Oliver Green got the day started for the Quakers.
Hafez played in the quickest match of the day as he took down his opponent in three games in just 20 minutes. Luthra picked up wins in his first two games but fell in the third game. Rehan battled to win 13-11 in game four to pick up the win.
Santry made his season debut on Friday, sweeping his opponent in just 24 minutes to earn his first victory of the year.
Green fought through the longest match of the day at 54 minutes, after losing game one he was able to pick up wins in the next three to get the victory.
Up next for Penn was
Nathan Kueh,
Hao Cui and
Kyle Penman. Kueh picked up wins in his first two games, although Kueh had to come from behind to grab the lead in game two. With a loss in game three, Kueh started off game four 3-0 and did not look back as he picked up the win.
Cui handled game one but was down multiple times including 5-0 and 7-2 in game two. Cui fought all the way back down five points to eventually take the win 12-0. Cui used that momentum to help him sweep as he took down his opponent in three.
Penman leaped head 7-3 in his opening game and did not turn back. Penman got the win in three games and in 25 minutes.
Rounding out play for Penn was
Varun Chitturi and
Shaam Gambhir, who each picked up the point in three games. Chitturi faced a 6-1 deficit in game one but fought had throughout to earn the sweep, while Gambhir closed out play with a 30-minute win.

Both the men's and women's team will be back in action tomorrow for a busy day at the Penn Squash Center. Both teams will take on Virginia at 2 p.m., while the women's team will face-off against Georgetown and the men will battle Navy both for a 6 p.m. start.
