PHILADELPHIA- The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams each won the Pennsylvania State Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Penn Squash Center, taking down Drexel 7-2 and 6-3, respectively.

The eighth-ranked Quaker women's team knocked off fifth-ranked Drexel, 6-3, to improve to 3-0 to start the year. Freshman Franka Vidovic and sophomore Jana Dweek each picked up match victories in three games, with Dweek rallying after being down 10-5 in game three to close out her win.

Freshman Sohaila Ismail and senior Avni Anand each dropped their first games but came back to win three in a row to earn victories.

Malak Taha, a sophomore who was a first-team CSA All-America last year, sealed the team win over the Dragons after a 50-minute battle and five games.

The top-ranked Penn men's team handled sixth-ranked Drexel, 7-2, to pick up its third win of the young season.

Three Quakers were able to win in three games as senior Nick Spizzirri, Abdelrahman Dweek and sophomore Hao Cui all swept their respective matches.

Sophomore Omar Hafez, freshman Varun Chitturi and junior Oliver Green picked up the wins in four games, Hafez's and Green's matches each lasting one hour and six minutes.

The final wave for the men featured Cui along with juniors Shaam Gambhir and Nathan Kueh. Kueh dropped his first set but was able to rally from behind to complete the comeback victory in four games.

The squash teams will be back in action next weekend at the Penn Squash Center. The women will take on Stanford at 3 p.m. on Friday and Virginia and Georgetown on Saturday afternoon. As for the men, they will face Western Ontario on Friday at 4:30 p.m., then welcome Virginia and Navy on Saturday.
