FH Falls On Road To #11 Harvard, 2-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team traveled to Cambridge Saturday to face No. 11 Harvard in an Ivy League bout, falling in a narrow defeat 2-0.

Quaker Notemeal
*The Quakers secured their spot in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament last week and has continued their streak of being over .500 for the ninth consecutive year in league play, sitting at 4-2 with one conference matchup left next weekend.

*Harvard had an advantage in shots, 19-3. Julia Ryan, Allison Kuzyk and Honor Roberts all fired off shots for the Quakers.

*Senior goalie Frederique Wollaert made 10 saves in 60 minutes of work, bringing her to 82 for the season. It's the third time this year she had double-digit saves, securing 11 against Northwestern and Saint Joseph's.

How It Happened
Harvard came out the gate firing several shots in the first 10 minutes, however, Wollaert was ready to block two of those shot attempts, making it difficult for the Crimson to score early.

Four minutes into the second period Harvard was awarded a penalty corner that was converted by Sage Piekarski giving them the 1-0 lead.

Starting the third period, the Crimson were gifted a couple of corners, the first one deflected by Lis Zandbergen.

Penn got the ball rolling in the third as the Quakers were awarded a corner, giving Kuzyk a shot that was fired slightly left.

The Quakers continued the offensive pressure into the fourth, gaining a quick corner. The shot was attempted by Ryan at the top of circle, seeking the equalizer, but was deflected.

The Red and Blue defense held strong on the backline as Wollaert recorded multiple glove and kick saves on back-to-back plays.

With a few minutes remaining in the fourth, the Crimson scored off yet another corner, their fourth attempt in the frame to take a 2-0 advantage.

Penn looked to close the deficit with a great opportunity from Roberts late, but the Crimson keeper pulled in the save.
