PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams split their Ivy League matchups with the Yale Bulldogs Saturday from the Penn Squash Center, with the men winning and women falling by identical 7-2 scores.
Ranked #2 in the College Squash Association (CSA) rankings, the men took the first five matches of the day against the #4 team in the country, rallying from one game down in two of them and taking two more in 3-0 fashion.
Dillon Huang started the men off with a 3-1 win, taking 22 of the match's last 31 points across the final two games.
Nathan Kueh took his match at No. 1 in just under an hour, and
Dana Santry held on for a five-game, 70-minute win to close out the first flight.
Like Huang,
Nick Spizzirri took 22 of the last 31 points in his match to at No. 2 to open the second wave, and
Saksham Choudhary clinched the match with a 3-0 win at No. 6.
After Yale picked up a pair of wins to close the second and open the third waves,
Omar Hafez and
Abdelrahman Dweek closed out the day with a pair of 3-0 wins.
On the women's side, three matches went to five games, with Yale coming out the victors in all three.
The #5 Bulldogs took two of three in the opening wave, with Malak Taha claiming a 3-1 win at No. 1 to keep the #9 Quakers briefly within striking distance, but the Bulldogs swept the second wave to open a 5-1 lead and claim the team win.
Emma Carter, playing for the first time in 2023, picked up a 3-0 win in the final wave for Penn's second point of the day.
The Quakers welcome Trinity to the Penn Squash Center tomorrow at 1 p.m., with the Bantams bringing in the #1 team in the CSA rankings on the women's side and the #6 team on the men's side.
