Women Swept By Crimson as Squash Drops Pair to Harvard in Ivy Road Action

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams dropped Ivy League road matches to Harvard Sunday afternoon, with the women suffering a 9-0 sweep and the men dropping a 5-4 instant classic.

On the women's side, the Crimson jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind a trio of 3-0 wins in the first flight. Navmi Sharma was up 2-0 in her match during the second wave, before suffering an injury that forced her to retire from the contest. Eujung Park pushed her match to four games during the final wave to close out the day for the ladies.

For the third time in the last 53 weeks, the two top ranked men's teams in the country went to battle against one another. Eight matches went at least four games and 43 minutes, five matches went at least an hour, and two went at least 75 minutes.

Midway through, Penn trailed with 3-1, with an early 3-0 win from Roger Baddour keeping the men within striking distance. In matches that ended mere seconds apart, Abdelrahman Dweek and Dillon Huang closed out five-game wins to level the match at three. Nick Spizzirri kept the Quaker momentum going with a four-game win to put Penn on top with two matches left. Despite 2-0 and 2-1 leads for Penn and several match balls for the Quakers in those final two matches, the Crimson rallied for the victory.

The Quakers return home next weekend and will welcome the best from the Nutmeg State, when Yale and Trinity come to the Penn Squash Center next Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Yale match will commence at 12 p.m. and the Trinity match will start at 1 p.m.
