PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania men's golf had a strong third-place showing at the Cornell/Temple Invitational this weekend. The two-day, 36-hole event took place on The 1912 Club's par-70 course in nearby Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Penn had two teams, totaling 10 players, in the field. The Quakers' "A" team was the third-place finisher, the team shooting 284 on Saturday and 293 on Sunday for a weekend score of 17-over-par 577. That was behind tournament champion Temple (561) and second-place Rhode Island (564). Among the other Ivy teams in the field, Columbia was just a stroke behind Penn while Cornell was fifth (583) and Dartmouth was seventh (585).

Senior
Mark Haghani and sophomore
John Richardson led the way for Penn, both shooting 3-over-par 143 on the weekend and tying for 12th in a field of 84 golfers. Haghani scored an even-par 70 on Saturday and followed up with a 73 on Sunday, while Richardson went 71-72 for his score. Haghani also finished tied for third in the field with nine birdies over the weekend.
Ben Scott shot 74-73 to finish at 7-over-par 147, tying for 27th, while
Jimin Jung carded 73-75—148 and tied for 33rd while also tying for first in the field with 26 pars over the 36 holes.
Harrison Ornstein matched Haghani's even-par 70 on Saturday and ended the weekend tied for 39th.
Penn's "B" team was led by
Anthony Basilio, who had 25 pars over the weekend and shot 72-73 to finish tied for 23rd overall at 5-over-par 145.
Andy Fan was next, carding 73-77—150, while
George Roessler shot 77-74 to finish one stroke behind Fan. Freshman
Steven Lee shot 74-78 to score both days for the team, which was rounded out by
Simon Markowitz who improved by nine strokes from the first round to the second.
Temple also brought home the individual medalist trophy on Sunday, as Ethan Whitney shot 66-69 to finish at 5-under-par 135. That left him three strokes ahead of URI's Brandon Gillis.
