How It Happened
A scoreless first half was nothing short of exciting with both teams combining for nine shots, but it wasn't until the third frame when the drought ended less than two minutes into the restart.
Â
From just outside of the circle, Ryan sent a hard pass into the congested middle when Kenny sliced in to redirect the cross past the gloves of the Wildcat keeper to break the scoring silence.
Â
The Penn defense held strong through the quarter, not allowing a single shot by the Wildcats.
Â
In the fourth, the teams combined for 11 more shots, including one by Villanova with less than three minutes left that found the back of the cage to send the game into extra time.
Â
The first overtime only saw one shot attempt, in favor of the Wildcats, scoring the game winner almost five minutes in to take the 2-1 decision.
