PHILADELPHIA – After a strong regular season, the University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team beings what it hopes will be an historic postseason on Sunday at the Ivy League Championships. Racing is scheduled to take place throughout the day on the Cooper River in nearby Camden, N.J., starting with the Varsity Eights time trials at 8 and 8:10 a.m. and concluding with the Varsity Eights Grand Final a little after 4 p.m.
All of Sunday's racing can be watched on ESPN+; links to both the morning heats and the afternoon finals are below.
The Quakers' Varsity Eight boat remains in the top 10 in this week's Pocock CRCA national poll, ranking eighth. They are fourth among Ivy Varsity Eights as Yale ranks third, Princeton ranks fourth, and Brown ranks fifth. Another solid showing on Sunday, and Penn could hear its name called for the first time when the NCAA Championships field is announced on Tuesday night. (The program has sent singular boats to the NCAAs previously, but not a full three-boat squad.)
"Racing at the Ivy Championships for the first time since 2019 is really special and not a moment we take for granted," said Penn's head coach,
Wesley Ng. "There are a lot of compelling stories individually that have added up to some special moments this regular season, but everyone starts level on the race course on Sunday. The Ivy League is a talented and deep conference, and I think that has been reflected in cross-regional racing. We are hoping to earn the opportunity to race at the NCAAs for the first time as a team, so Sunday provides some exciting opportunities."
