How It Happened

The Wildcats responded scoring four straight to take a lead that held the rest of the way. Before the end of the first quarter, Hunter added her first of the game with 30 seconds left to cut the Penn deficit to two at the break, 4-2.

Northwestern spread its advantage out to four with back-to-back finishes in the beginning of the second frame, but Hunter and Brandt trimmed it back to two with their second goals of the afternoon.

With 2:28 left in the half, the Wildcats started a nine-goal stretch that spread into the beginning part of the fourth quarter to take a 15-4 lead. Themelis and Block cut the run with back-to-back goals midway through the final frame, then Block and Brandt added two more down the stretch to get Penn back within eight.

In the closing seconds, Themelis put away the Quakers' final goal on a free-position shot to end the game.
