BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team got off to a tremendous start at the University of Hartford's Gillette Ridge Invitational on Friday, and the Quakers are atop both the team and individual leaderboards following the first round.
The 36-hole event will conclude Saturday on the par-72 Gillette Ridge Golf Club course.

As a team, Penn scored a 23-over-par 311 on Friday which has the Quakers 15 strokes ahead of second-place Fairfield and 23 strokes ahead of third-place Merrimack. Seven teams are in the field overall.
Individually, senior
Mary Shin carded a 1-over-par 73 on Friday which has her atop the 44-player leaderboard. Shin is three shots ahead of Fairfield's Sydney Nethercott, four ahead of Fairfield's Addy Douglas, and five ahead of teammate
Natalie Cao who carded a 78 on Friday.
Susan Xiao shot 79 on Friday, one behind Cao, and is in a four-player tie for fifth in the field.
Leila Dizon shot 81 and is tied for ninth. Four other Penn players are in the field as individuals:
Selina Li and
Olivia Traynor who both shot 84 on Friday,
Abigail Wiranatha who carded an 85, and
Debby Chang who shot an 89.
