Wrestling Comes Out Strong On Day One of EIWA Championships

ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania opened the 118th EIWA Championship on Saturday morning going 10-0 in the Round of 16. Eight of those ten advanced to quarterfinals on Saturday evening. Penn is the only team in the 17-team field with all wrestlers still wrestling. The two-day conference championship is taking place at Newman Arena at Bartels Hall on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
 
Sunday morning will feature the semifinals and the consolations rounds. The finals will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Penn was the only team to see all of its round of 16 grapplers advance to the quarterfinals.
 
Michael Colaiocco and Anthony Artalona pinned their opponents in the first period as Artalona's came just :39 seconds into the bout. CJ Composto and Nick Incontrera won by technical fall in their postseason debuts. Ryan Miller earned a major decision win in his postseason debut, Doug Zapf also won by major decision.
 
Penn went 8-2 in the quarterfinals as Incontrera used an overtime pin to advance. His overtime fall was the first of quarterfinals. Artalona earned a major decision win to advance to the semifinals.
 
Lucas Revano and Cole Urbas lost their quarterfinal bouts but both bounced back in the consolation quarterfinals. Revano won by a 4-3 decision as riding time was in his favor to defeat Dalton Harkins of Army. Urbas won by technical fall over Cade Wilson of Brown.
 
As a team, Penn currently sits in second place with 86.5 points just eight points behind Cornell with 94.5 points.
