Baseball Falls to Lafayette, 9-3, in Liberty Bell Classic Action

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team fell in Liberty Bell Classic action Tuesday afternoon to Lafayette College, 9-3, from Meiklejohn Stadium.

Lafayette (8-18) finished 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position (Penn finished 1-for-12) and 3-for-4 with runners on third and less than two out (Penn finished 0-for-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn starter Bryce Mangene retired the first eight batters before back-to-back two out doubles gave Lafayette a 1-0 lead in the third.

Wyatt Henesler tied the game for Penn (14-7) in the bottom of the inning with a single to left and the Quakers later jumped in front on a wild pitch.

Carson Ozmer launched a solo shot to left-center in the fourth, putting Penn up 3-1.

In the Lafayette fifth, two hit batsmen and two walks forced in a run without a ball being put in play. The Leopards eventually took the lead on a two-run single, then tacked on another run in the sixth.

Penn put two men on with one out in both the seventh and eighth innings but couldn't push a run across in either frame.

Lafayette blew the game open with four runs in the top of the ninth.
