NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Pennsylvania fencing team finished in eighth place at the NCAA Championships for the third time in the last four years, wrapping the 2021-22 season on Sunday. The Quakers finished with a total of 73 points and
Emon Daroian and
Eliot Herbst each earned All-American recognition.
Unlike other events during the year, the men and women's results are combined at the NCAA Championships, with the women fencing on Thursday and Friday and the men Saturday and Sunday.
Daroian took First Team All-American honors with a third-place finish in men's epee and weapon-mate Herbst took Honorable Mention All-American.
As a team, the Quakers finished the four-day event with 86 points, just four points behind seventh-place St. John's and 19 points clear of ninth-place Yale.
During women's competition on Thursday and Friday,
Vanessa Dib and
Chloe Daniel picked up 18 points combined in epee,
Amber White and
Vivian Lu picked up 15 points combined in sabre, and
Sabrina Cho picked up 11 points in foil.
During men's competition on Saturday and Sunday, the duo of Daroian and Herbst picked up 28 points in epee,
Blake Broszus picked up nine points in foil, and
Xiteng Lin picked up five points in sabre.
Daroian's 16 wins during the first five rounds qualified him for the semifinals, but the senior fell to Princeton's Nicholas Lawson.
